Earlier this month I took a trip to commemorate a looming, and rather momentous birthday. I snapped this picture of Queen Victoria at a garden folly at Waddesdon Manor. It is known as the wedding cake folly, but for today I will pretend it is my birthday cake!
Yes, today is the milestone birthday. This birthday is also special because I am celebrating the support and encouragement I have received from all of you this past week. Your support is helping me realize yet another milestone, the publication of my passion project, Apistocracy.
I am feeling introspective as I eat my actual birthday cake for breakfast this morning. (gluten free carrot cake) As I sit here, eating my decadent breakfast and feeling all the feels, there is one emotion that is demanding to be acknowledged. Gratitude! So, it simply must be said, and said emphatically… THANK YOU for a truly memorable birthday!!!

I mentioned the results on the comments of the last update and I posted it on Instagram but I had not shared the winning illustration with you yet.
The results are in! The week 1 Instagram story poll and the votes on the Kickstarter update have been tallied and
A: An Original Prototype Character is the winner!
A little backstory, when I made the first prototype several years ago, I modeled 3 of the starting characters after my children. My two younger children grudgingly allowed it whereas my eldest, Avery, was less reluctant. He has since playtested the game with me hundreds of times and attends every game convention with me when he is not away at college.
The original characters have since changed but those of you who playtested early iterations of the game may have played as Lord Avery, the character, or even met real life Avery at a convention.
My other 2 children acquiesced to being included, but only in more subtle ways. Each can be found in gallery paintings.
Thanks for voting! Next Sunday there will be 2 new categories for which to vote and another bonus character illustration will be revealed on Instagram next Monday.

There will be bonus character pieces in the base game that you may drop into the double-layer player mats if you want to play as a different persona. During the campaign on Sundays, I will have a poll on Instagram stories with 2 different character categories for which you may vote. On Mondays, I will post the winning character art on Instagram. Click on the icon below to go to @apistocracy on Instagram and click on my stories to vote.
If you do not have Instagram, no worries... Just comment below with your vote!
This week's choices are:
A. Original Character: An original prototype character based on one of my kids. (If you playtested the game prior to November 2023, you may have played as this character.)
B. Board Game Entertainer: A character based on a board game entertainer. (This character never fails to put a smile on my face.)
